What is Whereabouts and who is it for?

Whereabouts is a destination management and marketing platform built specifically for DMOs, CVBs, and Visitor Bureaus. It helps destination teams manage their member directory, communicate with stakeholders, publish live listings to their website, and run an events calendar, all from one place. It's built for small teams without technical backgrounds, and it's designed around how destination management actually works, not how a sales CRM works.

How is Whereabouts different from tools like HubSpot or Simpleview?

HubSpot and Salesforce are built for sales teams closing deals at scale. Simpleview is built for large convention bureaus. Whereabouts was built specifically for the way destination organizations work: managing community relationships, supporting operators, communicating with stakeholders, and marketing a place to visitors. You don't pay for a hundred features you'll never use, and you don't need a dedicated "CRM person" to keep it running.

Can our members update their own listings or events?

Yes! Member self-service is a core feature. Operators can log in to update listings, submit events, and manage their information without you having to chase emails or make edits manually. If you prefer that your destination organization manages all of the member information, that’s okay too! Whereabouts is flexible and you can decide who gets access.

What does "members can claim their own profiles" mean?

On the Full and Ecommerce plans, you can invite your operators, attractions, restaurants, and partners to log in and manage their own business profiles directly inside Whereabouts. They can update their hours, upload new photos, edit their descriptions, and more. Once you approve their changes, those updates flow automatically to any Widgets and directory pages on your website.Yes. You can embed directories, event calendars, and booking tools into virtually any website. No need to rebuild — Whereabouts adds tourism functionality wherever you need it.

What are Widgets and how do they work with my website? 

Widgets are embeddable listings that pull data directly from your Whereabouts directory. You can add them to any page of your website without touching any code. When an operator updates their profile, your website updates too. You can display listings as a grid, carousel, or map, and visitors can filter them by category, region, or any tags you've set up. They work with any CMS or website platform.

Do I need a developer to use Whereabouts?

No. Whereabouts was built so that destination teams can manage everything themselves. You don't need technical skills to set up your directory, run your events calendar, send Broadcasts, or embed Widgets on your website. That said, if your team has a developer or works with an agency, Widgets can be styled to match your branding.

What is the Broadcasts feature?

Broadcasts lets you send targeted messages directly to your stakeholders through Whereabouts. You can share documents, links, videos, surveys, and other resources with your full membership or with specific segments. You can then track who has opened the message, who downloaded attachments, and who hasn't engaged yet, so your follow-up is focused and efficient.

What's included in onboarding?

All plans include Helpdesk support. The Full Plan includes expert assist with data import (we help you prep your member info) plus support for your member onboarding rollout. The Ecommerce Plan includes white glove onboarding, which means our team is hands-on throughout the entire setup process.

Can I export my data if I leave Whereabouts?

Yes. Your data belongs to you. You can export your member directory at any time.

Is there a free trial?

We don't offer a self-serve free trial, but we do offer a free guided tour so you can see exactly how Whereabouts would work for your destination before committing. [Book yours here.]

What happens at the end of my annual subscription?

Your plan renews automatically on your anniversary date. If you'd like to change plans or cancel, just let us know before your renewal date. We recommend reaching out at least 30 days in advance.

Are prices in CAD or USD?

All prices listed here are in Canadian dollars (CAD). If you're a US-based destination, get in touch and we can discuss pricing in USD.
